YANG YANG

Pinna, una studentessa atleta di 20 anni, di papà francese, ma non parla una parola della lingua di suo padre (francese), essendo stata cresciuta da sua madre divorziata. La sua migliore amica è la compagna Xiao-ru (Lei), figlia del suo allenatore. Quando la madre di Yang Yang sposa l’allenatore, Xiao-ru diventa la sorella di Yang Yang. Yang Yang finalmente ottiene una vera casa e un padre che rispetta. Ma le tensioni crescono quando Shawn  si innamora di Yang Yang. A causa dei rapporti di famiglia e di amicizia, Xiao-ru chiude un occhio sui suoi sospetti, ma, nella sequenza migliore del film, che vede coinvolto un cellulare preso in prestito, finalmente lei non può ignorare la verità. La carriera di Yang Yang come modella e aspirante attrice dopo aver lasciato casa, rasenta il fantastico, soprattutto quando partecipa a un’audizione per il ruolo di una donna metà francese alla ricerca di suo padre.

Pinna,a 20-year-old student athlete who’s half-French but doesn’t speak a word of her (Gallic) father’s language, as she’s been raised by her divorced mom. Her best friend is fellow student Xiao-ru (Her), the daughter of her coach. When Yang Yang’s mom marries the coach, Xiao-ru becomes Yang Yang’s sister. Yang Yang finally gets a real home and a father she respects. But tensions grow when Xiao-ru’s b.f., Shawn, falls for Yang Yang. In the cause of family and friendship, Xiao-ru turns a blind eye to her suspicions but, in the movie’s best sequence, which involves a borrowed cell phone, finds she finally can’t ignore the truth. Following Yang Yang’s career as a model and wannabe actress after she’s left home, verges on the fanciful, especially when she auditions for a role as a half-French woman looking for her father. By now, too, helmer Cheng’s propensity for long handheld takes and closeup camerawork seems simply a stylistic affectation.
