The seventh edition of the Lucania Film Festival, the first international short film Festival of Basilicata is going to be presented next week, during a press conference, and it’s going to be carried out by the cultural association Allelammie, in Pisticci, from Thursday the 10th to Sunday the 13th of August, 2006, in the striking memorable location of the Rione Dirupo. Nearly eight hundred films joined in the international competition and they come from almost seventy of the Countries of the five continents. The selector jury has just chosen the works which are going to take part in the next edition: more than 100 short films are going to be projected during the Festival. The present sections in the summer part of the LFF are Fiction, Animation, the main (international) sections of the Festival, dedicated to the research and the finding of the new authors of the independent present-day cinema and to the exploration of the new horizons of the cinematographic animation; Lucania Film Festival is both a chance of meeting of young film makers of the region and the trade of the sector and a moment of analysis for the Cinema perspectives in Basilicata.

About five thousand euros is the jackpot for the winner short films. Juries are going to be composed by Italian and foreigner experts of the cinematographic sector, Professors, journalists, leaders of the culture and art world; anyway the LFF international jury has always been composed by members who invest on the territory with the organizers. The choice of the members is based on the impact that jurors could have on the community, which is the true artificer of the festival. This year the popular jury of Lucania (among the greatest ever) is going to be suggested again. It is composed by a resident of each town of Basilicata, three residents of Matera, three of Potenza and five of Pisticci. A great deal of people from every town of the region put in the organizational secretary’s office of the festival.

In the days of the projections the popular jurors are going to examine 100 cinematographic works in the international competitive and non-competitive sections, by meeting the directors and the operators, taking part in conferences, seminars, retrospectives and post-festival. A lot of other events are going to be organised, like a photographic exhibition on the sad condition of the Somalia, carried out by the humanitarian operator Tusio de Iuliis, and electronic music performances with old age films, spaces dedicated to the organization of the cinematographic, documentary, musical, environmental and fair trade sectors; seminars, workshops and debates on the cinema, ecology and international volunteering subjects.

Also this year there will be the Post Festival which is going to take place in the Loggia Sterbini where the public is going to be hailed by dj set, video installations and local wine and food products. Once again the closing of the works is going to be carried out by Lammie in Musica, music festival which is going to propose a great concert of international music, this year as well: on the 13th of August at 22.00 an Occitan band, Lou Dalfin, whose career started in 1982, is going to bring on the stage of Via Sanfelice “a load of ghirondas, pipes, guitar mandolins, squeeze boxes”, singing in the language of the troubadours. Lou Dalfin creates a jubilation of timbers and sounds which turns its concerts in a proper folk festival. It’s a folk-rock that sends back to a revised and adjusted Irish folk music, or to Goran Bregovic’s gypsy festivals. Once again Allelammie public will have the chance to sing, dance, enjoy the closing party which is going to be a goodbye to the eighth edition of the LFF and the tenth birthday of the association of Pisticci, which is nowadays a reference point in the wide panorama of the Italian and international associationism.
