From the streets to penitentiaries
Beginning from this year Allelammie Association has decided to directly involve the penitentiary Institutes in the activities of the Lucania Film Festival, which is in its seventh edition, by projecting in the prison of Potenza a selection of short films that take part in the Festival, during the first two days of the event (from the 10th to the 13th of August). The project is still in its infancy but it intends to offer a pass key for facing the problem of the other’s understanding, the overcoming of the differences and the prejudices in a mixed and alienated setting such as the prison is. The goals of the Lucania Film Festival short films projections are encouraging among the inmates the interest for the seventh art and above all starting a debate and a reflection on the often deep subjects of the cinematographic works at issue. The universal Cinema language is indeed able to represent and make instantly understand the cultural differences among different Countries and peoples. It functions as intermediary of the differences and of the overcoming of the contrasts and the misunderstandings of cultural models and different values systems. To sum up, by this initiative and thanks to the Cinema, the Lucania Film Festival wants to carry out a sort of education at the difference, which is seen as an occasion for its own criticism on the world. Regional Chief of prison, Dr. ssa Maria Pia Giuffrida
