In these times of economic crisis (crisis for whom? What kind of crisis?), our governors are engaged with budget laws that cut especially those areas that cannot create jobs and wellness, in the sense of pure profit: art, creativity and culture. School, Theatre, Dance, Movies, Music, Books, Fine Arts are the trades that have improved humanity, stimulating minds, raising people, civilizations and communities from miseries, fears, tragedies. Still today, these “occupations” represent a great opportunity for a world of beauty, peace and deep prosperity. Culture, then, as an incubator of lives and intelligences. A society without culture has already taken the road of self-destruction (slow or fast), starting from its heritage of memories, experiences and skills. Without art, dialogue and research, a society remains helpless against the thieves of time, the hackers of the eternal present, the ones that keep you stuck to the present, forcing you to settle, without any possible and sensible utopia. Within its grasp, Lucania Film Festival wants to break with this damn tradition, contributing to the sense of people’s lives through directors, authors (from the Latin àuctus, past participle of àugeo: to expand, increase, bring prosperity) and their films coming from all over the world to enrich with words, ideas, stories, hopes the micro/macro cosmos of the audience. And the Festival audience is grateful. The audience in which we regularly find the love and the strength to raise the challenge, above all in times of crisis. Let’s really come out from the crisis.Let’s leave the real crisis: the one of a world no longer able to imagine a future. To dream, to build it. Let’s give to the small and big wishes an image, a shape, a small great chance.
