The administrative office of Allelammie informs that the application announcement for the partecipation at the 13th edition of the Lucania Film Festival, addressed to all independent film makers from all over the world, is open. The rules and the application modes are online. The participation is free of charge. The international sections of the competition are: FEATURES and SHORT FILMS Fiction . Animation. The deadline is fixed on the 20nd of March 2012. The Festival lasts from 09th to 13th August 2012 in Pisticci, Matera (Italy). During the next weeks the first artistical choices regarding the international jury, the events, the projects and the special guests of the Lucania Film Festival 13th edition will be published. 11 x 11th: Submissions

At the 12th edition of Lucania Film Festival, a Visual Arts Competition, “11 x 11th”, open to emerging artists is taking place. The large audience made up of artists, directors, actors, set designers, all with great artistic value, along with professionalism famed guests, make the event an important showcase for artists of all kinds. During the “11 x 11th”, 12 artists for the 12th edition, LFF will focus attention on the various language forms of art, in addition to the film one. LFF, the first international film festival born in Basilicata, has become an important event in the national and international independent cinema, boasting a number of more than 100,000 spectators in the past eleven editions. This is a meeting that aims to be a sort of workshop/event of the art network and to give visibility to the various kinds of language. August the 10th, 2011: Acustimantico

The Acustimantico, one of the most interesting bands of the new Italian music d’auteur, will open in Piazzetta Mazzini the 10th of August, Rione Terravecchia, the series of “midnight events” of the twelfth edition of Lucania Film Festival in Pisticci. At the releasing date of their new album, the band from Rome will return to the Lucania Film Festival (they were there in 2000 too) with a semi-acoustic performance that is self presented as immersive and evocative. Award-winning at Recanati Festival, De Andrè Prize, Mantova Music Festival, MEI Prize and others, The Acustimantico offer a music that charms: thanks to the slight alien magic of some nocturnal ballads, to the overwhelming rhythms of some “secret” hits such as Lotus Flowers, Love Class Struggle, or Imaginary Music; thanks also to the beauty of voice and sound research, to poetry and lyrics and to the oblique stories that they tell.And certainly for the enticing live performances, where there is best brought out the ability to innovate song writing with other elements, from alternative pop to jazz, from ethno-folk echoes to avant-garde and classical music. The band’s new album is being released right in these days. It’s the fourth one if not considering a live compilation and the music-theatre work about the poet Emanuel Carnevali. It’s called Time of Passage and is going to be presented soon at the Auditorium in Rome, though you will attend some splendid advances in Pisticci (including The Good Teaching, June Song, Lebanon). That will be enhanced by the delightful nocturnal setting of Piazzetta Mazzini, plus enriched by photographs by Mario Giacomelli, one of the greatest Italian photographers of the twentieth-century, which will serve as a valuable commentary on the cover of the new disc. An event not to be missed.

August the 10th, 2011: Rocco De Rosa

The twelfth edition of Lucania Film Festival will begin on the 10th of August, 2011 with the second act of “Chaplin-trilogy” created and produced by Rocco De Rosa: after the “The Kid” success from last year, in fact, on Saint Lawrence’s night a performance of this Lucanian pianist is scheduled. He will accompany live another masterpiece of film history, CITY LIGHTS by C. Chaplin. The relationship between music and cinema, and more in general between music and images has always characterised Rocco De Rosa’s music research, not only for the passion that binds him to art film but also a “visual” natural force of his compositions. It’s not a case that his music was picked up by directors such as Olmi, Moretti, Maselli. The idea that cinema, as received in its original dimension, can reach such high levels of emotion or entertainment is often completely unexpected by the spectators and in the case of Chaplin’s involvement it affects both adults and children. Through improvisation and emotion of the moment, the pianist will follow and comment the story sequence by sequence. The stylistic references either towards the classical period music or the original soundtracks are only remotely invoked and what you hear is a modern and classic style at the same time, in the sense that he returns a melodic and expressiveness perceived as “familiar”, natural, through a modern sensibility. An event of great charm in the churchyard of Chiesa Madre, mainstay of the LFF.

11th of August 2011: Martine Venturelli Atelier

On the 11th of August, on the MainStage of Pisticci Chiesa Madre, a very special event will enrich the program of LFF in 2011. There will be on stage, in fact, “L’Atelier” a Parisian theatre company of international reputation, founded and directed by Martine Venturelli. This research group, which is going strong for over 10 years, will stage the show: “Celui qui ne connaît pas l’oiseau le mange”. An appointment of a rare beauty that will immerse the audience into a soundscape, in the dark, where the ear is magnetised by the players’ mouth, by their breath and their dances. Do not miss.

12th of August 2011: Paolo Briguglia

LFF and the Italian Association of the Blinds and Partially Sighted of Basilicata, on August the 12th, 2011, on the MainStage in Pisticci, Lucania Film Festival, will present the special event “AUDIO DRAMA LIVE” inspired by the book ‘In the sea there are the crocodiles’ by Fabio Geda , playing actors Paul Briguglia and Roberto Salemi and music composed and performed live by Francesco Accardo. “There are crocodiles in the Sea” is the incredible story of Enaiatollah’s journey, an Afghan boy who to escape the war will arrive in Italy via Iran, Turkey and Greece. The event will show characteristics as a “blind” spectacle in which the view is completely canceled in favour of a new and more intense rediscovery of the other senses, to make audience, completely blindfolded, experience blindness and to promote greater sensitivity toward the world of blinds.

13th of August 2011: Rock’n'Roll Kamikazes

55 years after its birth, rock and roll will get once again the task of closing the curtain of Lucania Film Festival. A crazy plane loaded of rock’n'roll will crash on the mainstay of Terravecchia, one of THE ROCK’N'ROLL KAMIKAZES, four brave warriors of ‘the seven notes’, four samurai armed to the teeth ready for anything to blow up legs, head , and pelvis with rock’n'roll, rock’a'billy, rockin ‘blues, soul and swing! Under the command of the crazy crew, the brave singer and the Scottish guitarist Andy McFarlane, decorated for valour for his earlier ventures heading the fantastic band SPAMABILLY BORGHETTI and especially the very celebrated HORMONAUTS, with whom he left an indelible mark in the 2000s, releasing six albums, bringing the devil’s music on the radio, on television and on stage of the most important local festivals, including the Lucania Film Festival, and distinguishing himself amongst the most recognisable front man, charismatic and popular of the time. With a background so fierce and well-stocked, the goal on which THE ROCK’N'ROLL KAMIKAZES want to crash up, can not be that one only: to play the great rock and roll, touching all the nuances and veering from wild rock’a'billy to Marca Motown’s soul, from the most frisky to the blues stomp lava flow, allowing themselves a few languid and enveloping slowing downs as a smoky jazz club (even kamikazes have got a heart) without ever losing sight of the simple approach, direct and visceral and of origins. A freeing blast of good vibrations that will be literally impossible to escape, sonic bombs from the sky, pure rock and roll explosion.

Lucania Film Festival 2011

A few months after the successful experience in Paris of the Lucania Film Family, thought to promote the Lucanian area through an actual cultural and cinematic ‘door to door’, it’s once again time for Lucania Film Festival, one of the most popular and enduring festival of independent cinema on the international scene, as well as being a bastion in Southern Italy for a cultural reflection on the state of cinema, the world’s emergencies or simple slices of everyday life stories from all continents. The festival, organized by Allelammie, with its range of films, debates, discussions, exhibitions, concerts, meetings with filmmakers, experts, writers and the formula which combines severity and dissemination activities, entertainment and social commitment, has emerged as a key event for those who want to be informed on the world production of independent films and to participate in the cultural debate in the country. Everything is well integrated in the context of geographical and cultural community that is hosting the event. Lucania, Pisticci and other locations. In the wake of continuity, this year the Lucania Film Festival will present a rich program of proposals. There are hundreds of films submitted (over 500) in the international competition reserved for the ’short works’ of fiction, documentary and animation and, since last year, for feature films too. About 50 countries appear in Pisticci, representing the five continents. In addition to several European countries, there stand out also India, Iran, Israel, Japan, Singapore and Sri Lanka for Asia, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico and Venezuela for Central and South America, Senegal and Egypt for Africa, Australia for the Oceania and, as usual, the USA and Canada. During the Twelfth Edition, scheduled in Pisticci (in the province of Matera) from the 10th to 13th of August 2011, the 30 finalist films will be presented: all of them, beyond the issues addressed (social, environmental, emotional), incapsulate a great cinematographic value. Pisticci, therefore, is preparing to once again become the capital city for Lucanian cinema, being so ready to welcome filmmakers, film makers, artists, designers, cultural tourists and cinema fans from around the world, including France, place of the first stage for the spin-off Lucania Film Family. LFF is not only cinema though: to strengthen the tradition of special events that are placed in the Festival, understood as a container, this year some great artistic performances will be held: the 2011 festival in San Lorenzo’s night, will start with the second act of ‘trilogy-Chaplin’, created and produced by Rocco De Rosa: after the success achieved last year by ‘The Kid’, in fact, the 10th of August a performance is programmed by this pianist, originally from Lucania, who will accompany with piano another masterpiece of the history of film, CITY LIGHTS by C. Chaplin; August the 12th will be the turn of Paul Briguglia, who will stage the play ‘In the sea there are crocodiles’, a moving story starring a child from Afghanistan. And then, concerts, special performances, exhibitions, gastronomic events and social commitment. Well, in anticipation of the billboard, it can be said that there are all the ingredients for a great new edition of the Lucania Film Festival.
